CORRECTIONAL SERVICE DOG HANDLER

• 1984 to 1996 administrated, trained, handled, and certified 3 Correctional Service Dogs (Narcotics Detection/Patrol Dog). Program concluded in 1996 when the Ontario Provincial Police agreed to provide canine services across the province as a cost saving measure.
• Trained and certified the first, and to date the only, Correctional Services Dogs under the United States Police Canine Association in Canada for narcotics detection, patrol dog work, and tracking.
• 1984-1996 Conducted over 400 Correctional Services Dog searches for narcotics in  Correctional Centers, Detention Centers, and Community Recourse Centers across Ontario.  Responsible for narcotics searches and tracking escaped inmates for over 22 institutions.
• Over 2,000 documented Correctional Service Dog drug finds.
• Over 250 weapons found by canine.
• Over 300 institutional misconduct convictions resulting from canine searches.

• 2009 Trained to Certification 3 Volunteer Search and Rescue Canine Teams for the Hamilton Police Service under the Ontario Provincial Police/OSARVA standards.
• 2010 Trained to Certification 3 Volunteer Search and Rescue Canine Teams for the Hamilton Police Service under the Ontario Provincial Police/OSARVA standards.
• 2010 Guelph Police Service- Instructor Canine-Criminal Apprehension Problem Solving- Guelph Police Canine Training Seminar- Over50 Police Canine Teams from across the province. Guelph Ontario.
• 2011 Halton Police Service- Invited guest speaker for Police Service Search Manager Search and Rescue Course. Presented on the selection, training, certification, and deployment of search and rescue dogs by Police Search Managers. Halton Police Service District 2 station Oakville.
• 2011 Hamilton Police Service- Invited guest speaker for Municipal/OPP Provincial Search Managers quarterly meeting. Presented on the selection, training, certification, and deployment of search and rescue dogs by Police Search Managers.
• 2011 Trained to Certification 4 Volunteer Search and Rescue Canine Teams for the Hamilton Police Service under the Ontario Provincial Police/OSARVA standards.
• 2012 June- Lead Instructor for Toronto Police Canine Water Search Training Course with cadaver dogs from Toronto, Peel and dogs 2 volunteer dogs used by Hamilton Police Service.

• 2013 Trained to Certification 4 Volunteer Search and Rescue Canine Teams for the Hamilton Police Service under USPCA Standards in Cadaver Detection.

• 2013 June Participated with Toronto Police Service hosted by Peel Police Service with SAR Canine “Raina” on a one week water drowned victim search course where all course requirements were achieved.

• 2013 Attended International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators conference – Dealing with bomb threats domestic and international incidents/K9 Bomb detection, deployment, and  first aid, Burlington, Ontario.
