Testimonials - CR Dogs Hall of Fame
I was very excited to get my first dog. I had waited many years to get
one
and I wanted to rescue a dog so I went to the Humane Society. My
only
criteria were an affectionate, relatively calm dog that was past
puppyhood.
I adopted Nala, a beautiful 80 lb
female white German Shepherd
that was caught as a stray with
a litter of pups living off garbage
from a dumpster behind a
restaurant. She seemed very
calm and was instantly
affectionate so I took her home
with me. When I got her home I
realized she was affectionate
and bonding and much more
...extremely dog aggressive.
When we went for our walks she
would pull me down the street
barking at any dog within a 4 block radius and
lunging at dogs
when they passed by. I was
pretty sure given a chance, she would have
fought any dog in her line of sight.
This was terribly frightening and
embarrassing and I had no idea what to do. I was also pretty sure
if I
returned her she may have been deemed unadoptable and put to sleep.

I called a few trainers but I
wasn’t convinced they had the experience to deal with my kind
of dog. I also sat in on a
training class that dealt with a barking
dog by putting up two pieces of
cardboard on either side of the
dog to block his vision.
I couldn’t figure out how I was going to
walk down the street with a big dog on a leash
and two pieces of cardboard in the real world.
Then I called Dave Walker of Command Response Dogs. On the
phone I noted
right away that he had a vast amount of experience and a no nonsense
approach to dog training which is
exactly what we needed. In his
classes he
demonstrated and taught the mechanics of commands, and he also treated
my dog very individually praising
her for compliance. Not only
did my dog
respond well to the training she also adored Dave Walker. This was
probably
the first human in her life she ever respected.
During the training sessions both
Dave Walker and instructor
Hetty Abma
gave me sound advice and answered
my many, many questions.
The classes
were not only informative but extremely
fun. Week by week I
could see my
rescue dog coming to life and a great
bond forming between us.
We eventually graduated from level 3
training which was OFF
LEAD! Yes…
….Nala was eventually able to remain in
a down stay with 10 other dogs beside
her with me 30 feet away.
Obedience training with CR Dogs was so much fun that I didn’t want it to
end.
Luckily Dave Walker also offered training in the sport of
Tracking which I was
eager to try. The training provided some great needed stimulation
and exercise
for my rescue dog. I would
highly recommend CR Dogs training for any type of
dog in any circumstance.
CR Dog’s down to earth training and creative
solutions are the key to their success.
I am sure the help of Dave Walker and
CR Dog‘s training was the difference between life and death for
Nala.
Nala and I had several great years together thanks to CR Dogs.
