Linda Lloyd

          Linda Lloyd - Boxer Rescue

When a "problem" dog comes in to Boxer Rescue Ontario we call Dave
Walker for help. As you can imagine, Boxers come to us for all sorts of
reasons. Some have been neglected, some abused, some loved too much
and as a result never properly trained or managed by their owners.

While we are generally pretty experienced in dealing with a myriad of
issues, when we get stymied we call Dave to help us understand and
treat whatever issue we might be dealing with. The difference in our
dogs tells the "tail".  Dave is able to help us identify and work with
behaviours in a way which allows us to successfully turn "problem" dogs
into adoptable pets. Dave has helped us rehabilitate dogs demonstrating
aggression towards other dogs and strangers which is typically the type
of behaviour owners find most distressing and difficult to deal with.

Case in point: "Rex" came to us from his owner at about 7 years of age.
"Rex" was nearly impossible to handle on leash, particularly in the
presence of other dogs or people strange to him. Given the opportunity
he would lunge up at people while on leash which is behaviour completely
unacceptable in polite society. We were at a loss as to how to deal with
Rex because within his comfort zone he was a really nice dog. But who
would want to adopt a dog who turned into the Tasmanian Devil when
out on a walk? We called Dave and within the first hour of class Rex was
starting to understand the rules of the road which did not include acting
crazed when in the presence of other dogs and strangers. Rex's foster
mom worked with him over the next couple of weeks, once she knew how
to handle his behaviour, and within 3 weeks Rex completely turned things
around. He became attentive to his foster mom to the point where he was
the best in his obedience class, even among dogs with more training! Rex
is now highly adoptable and will make some lucky family a loving pet.

At Boxer Rescue Ontario we say "until there are none, rescue one" and
that's what we think Dave does. He rescues dogs and their owners from
a lifetime of bad behaviour and turns them into good canine citizens!
